World War Z: The Great Panic
In this chapter, The Great Panic, the author continues the story with his interviews after the word of infection had spread globally. He speaks with multiple military service along with a few other people. When he had encountered Sharon, a mentally unstable girl in Kansas, she tells her story of the panic. At the end of her story her mother was attempting to strangle her rather than watching her die at the hands of the infected. She was saved by a woman who was present and was told to run. By this point it was apparent that this chapter was showing how heartless people can be. The author also spoke to T. Sean Collins who describes himself as a "mercenary". His story talked about how people were killing each other just to be safe. Another sign of the irrational panic people were resorting to. Finally the chapter ends with an interview with a former U.S. infantryman named Todd Wainio. He tells his story which is from the military perspective. Eventually Todd ends the interview talking about the war in New York City. This chapter brought a great point to light, that war has never been just about hurting someone, but about inflicting fear and controlling someones actions. In the case of zombies those feelings do not exist.
