Turning The Tide & Homefront USA

This chapter starts off with the interview of Paul Redeker who for all intents and purposes is a psychopathic scoiopathic racist. In the world that World War Z takes place in this however is a trait to be desired and he is lauded for his intellect and ability to come up with plans that end include the slaughter in mass of people who are on his side and the enemies. The world praises him for his purging of undesirables and puts his plans into place, firstly against black people during apartheid and secondly against zombies. The part about being horribly racist and his plans leading to the killing of many of the native Africans during the apartheid era is glossed over in an attempt to make the character seem more likable or at least it seem more plausible for him to continue to exist. In short he formulates a plan that pits survivor groups against zombies in an attempt to thin their number and the plan works, a large number of the population dies fighting the zombies while reducing their number somewhat. Thinking deeper on this subject this interview begins to make sense, because as I have said earlier, every single person in a position of power is completely incompetent in this book without exception, no person throughout the entire world owns guns, and there are flesh eating perpetual motion machines roaming the earth in the search for more stupid weaponless people to eat. The rest of this chapter however is closer to bearable but one more mention has to be made about the second interview in which it describes a person being infected by brain tissue being carried by a bullet into a person therefore infecting them, to say the least such a thing should not be possible ignoring the fact that the zombies exist and continue to do so because of voodoo space magic. Hell maybe this should be taken seriously for example in the military leaders do not actively participate but maybe because of all the magically animated corpses moving about eating people the military pulled out all the stops and sent everyone to the front lines, and I do mean everyone. The entirety of this chapter is not so subtlety about sacrifice. It segways halfway through to talking about america which is a nice transition into the second chapter titled Home Front USA.
Home Front USA is probably the most illogical part of the book to me it appears to be an attempt to humble the USA and some such. The entire chapter is about the failings of the United States government, the United States military and most of all the United States citizenry to an illogical degree. In the United States of this book every single goddamn person is horribly incompetent the United States is described as having two thirds of the population unable to use their profession to help with the current crisis. Apparently there are no guns in the united states at least according to this book or if they do exist literally nobody knows how to use them a point which to a lesser degree is true at least in my opinion. Secondly the military decides not in fact to draft any physically able person into the military give them a gun and send them to fight the zombies but instead just gives up on the whole idea of fighting zombies and goes with the plan to teach them "the skills necessary to make it on their own" which to say the least is the authors complete lack of ability to come up with any sort of list of skills needed to survive. The author shits all over the american people saying that a large majority of the people doing the teaching were immigrants who "were the people who tended small gardens in their backyards" completely ignoring the fact this key fact as shown by this graph (hawkeye maps)

This graph as you can see shows that the majority of the land used by farmers in the united states is to the west of the Appalachian mountains which is where the military supposedly set up a failing safeguard, so theoretically there should not be a major drain on the food produced in the united states especially taking into account that the majority of the people east of those mountains were turned into flesh eating perpetual motion machines that therefor do not need food to operate. The interview also includes the line "Air traffic was nonexistent" which is so completely illogical considering the fact that the TSA exists and while it is terrible at detecting terrorists, it is great about touch every damn part of your body which would of course mean that they would quite easily scan for infected people and as such flights should logically be the safest way to get around.
In all honesty the incredible amount of nonsense put forth by brooks in this chapter is off putting and taking into consideration the praise that is heaped on the redeker character and the scathing commentary on the united states I have come to the conclusion that Max Brooks is a freedom hating racist Nazi or possibly something even worse, a bad author.
